As the global Halal industry continues to grow, MIHAS 2024 is gearing up to host its largest edition yet. From September 17-20, 2024, the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) will bring together over 40,000 visitors and more than 2,000 booths at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. This premier event, hosted by Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) and organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), promises to deliver an unmatched experience for both exhibitors and visitors from around the world.
A Truly Global Event
With participants from 66 countries, MIHAS 2024 will showcase a broad range of Halal products and services, reinforcing its position as the world’s largest Halal trade fair. Countries such as China, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Thailand are leading international participation. Exhibitors will come from across the globe, representing every continent, making MIHAS a truly international platform that highlights the diversity and global importance of the Halal market.
Yang Berhormat Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Bin Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, emphasised the event’s continued success since its inception in 2004. “MIHAS has benefited nearly 17,000 Malaysian exporters and foreign buyers, generating close to RM25 billion in sales and attracting over 500,000 visitors,” he noted. This year’s edition aims to surpass RM3.5 billion in sales.
Achievements and New Milestones
One of MIHAS 2024’s key achievements is its recognition by the Guinness World Records for attracting the largest attendance at a Halal trade show, with 38,566 visitors at MIHAS 2023. The event aims to surpass that record this year, building on its reputation as a must-attend showcase for professionals in the Halal industry.
Beyond business networking, MIHAS 2024 will emphasise innovation and sustainability, underscoring MATRADE’s commitment to future-forward initiatives. The event will continue to leverage technology, following the success of the virtual MIHAS 2021, which earned MATRADE the prestigious 2022 WTPO award for “Best Use of Information Technology.” In 2023, MIHAS was also endorsed by UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, further cementing its position as a leading global event.
Recognising Industry Leaders
A highlight of this year’s event is the presentation of the Anugerah Khas Tokoh Pembangunan Halal Negara to Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the Halal industry. His dedication to fostering growth in the sector has left a lasting impact, inspiring future leaders.
Enhanced Business Opportunities
MIHAS 2024 offers more than just exhibitions. It provides strategic platforms for business growth, including the International Sourcing Programme (INSP), which will connect 330 international buyers with 800 Malaysian sellers, targeting a potential sourcing value of RM1.7 billion. Additionally, the Hosted Buyers Programme will create opportunities for 50 local buyers to network with international exhibitors, further facilitating meaningful business transactions.
Yang Berbahagia Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE, shared that the programme has pre-arranged 250 business meetings between carefully vetted buyers and exhibitors. These meetings facilitated through dedicated programme coordinators and online platforms, will occur from September 17-19, fostering robust business opportunities.
Knowledge Sharing and Awards
On September 19, MIHAS 2024 will host its Knowledge Hub session, offering valuable insights from industry leaders in its “Meet the Experts” sessions. These discussions will focus on promoting innovation and driving growth within the Halal economy.
The event will culminate with the MIHAS Awards, recognising excellence across various categories, including the Excellence Products & Services Awards, the Innovative Products & Services Awards, and the newly introduced Sustainability Award. These awards reflect MIHAS’ commitment to recognising and celebrating industry advancements and sustainability efforts.
Expanding Globally
Looking beyond 2024, MATRADE is set to launch MIHAS@Dubai at the Middle East Organic and Natural Product Expo in November 2024. This marks the international expansion of the MIHAS brand, aiming for a sales target of RM1 billion. Featuring over 200 booths across a 2,000 sqm pavilion, this initiative further solidifies MIHAS as a growing global force.
Shaping the Future of Halal
MIHAS 2024 is not just a trade fair but a platform for innovation, sustainability, and global networking in the Halal sector. It offers exhibitors and visitors the chance to explore the latest developments, from food technology to sustainable practices, while opening doors for local companies to access new markets, including Latin America and Africa.
As MIHAS continues to grow and evolve, it plays a pivotal role in expanding the global Halal footprint and solidifying Malaysia’s position as a key player in the industry. With its expansive reach and forward-looking agenda, MIHAS 2024 promises to be an unparalleled event for the Halal sector, driving growth and innovation for years to come.
