JELAJAH VERIFY HALAL GIVES HOPE TO SMEs AND COOPERATIVE ENTREPRENEURS
Jelajah Verify Halal programme formed by Serunai COE Sdn Bhd, in July 2021 to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Cooperatives acquiring Malaysia Halal Certification has begun to show results when more entrepreneurs show their interest to be part of the programme.
Group Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Serunai COE, Amnah Shaari said, “With the spread of COVID-19 as well as the effects of natural disasters faced by those involved, the Jelajah Verify Halal programme is seen as a lifeline to help the continuity of the SMEs and Cooperatives businesses. This effort is also in line with our mission and jihad for the Ummah.”
She said, “The programme encompass visits to entrepreneurs in Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Pulau Pinang, among other states, and will continue to do so in other parts of Malaysia in the future. Increasing the numbers of SMEs and Cooperatives in the Halal industry is crucial as they contribute significantly to Malaysia’s economy and allow them to drive the sector.”
A Halal certification will not only allow entrepreneurs to participate in the Halal industry but will also add value to their products, as a Halal certification has always been associated with good quality and good reputation.
Besides existing certifications such as the Makanan Selamat Tanggungjawab Industri (MeSTI) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Malaysia’s Halal certification has been identified as one of the more important standards in the food industry.
During the roadshow visit, a briefing on the Malaysian Halal Certification programme was held to explain the framework of the programme and how to get the Malaysian Halal Certification to the entrepreneurs engaged. Halal awareness training was also given to the entrepreneurs engaged to raise their level of Halal awareness. A site visit to the facilities involved was also carried out with the goal of identifying adjustments and changes that the business owners needed to make.
Serunai COE Sdn Bhd plans to continue approaching more enterprises to be Halal certified by developing more programmes to raise Halal awareness among entrepreneurs.
