In a significant step towards enhancing Algeria’s Halal industry, L’institut Algérien de Normalisation (IANOR) and Malaysia’s Serunai Commerce Sdn. Bhd. formalised their partnership through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) under the Islamic Development Bank’s (IsDB) Reverse Linkage initiative. The signing ceremony took place on 22 May 2025 at Sheraton Club des Pins Resort, Algiers, Algeria. 

The Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed by Mr. Djamal Hales, Director General of IANOR, and accepted by Madam Amnah Shaari, Group CEO & Founder of Serunai Commerce Sdn Bhd. Serunai Commerce was in Algeria to participate in the IsDB Annual Meeting, and the LoI signing was organised separately during this mission to further strengthen bilateral collaboration in Halal ecosystem development.

A Strategic Partnership for Halal Development

Algeria, with its predominantly Muslim population, recognises the vast potential of the Halal market in driving economic growth. To fully capitalise on this opportunity, the country aims to strengthen its Halal certification processes, digital infrastructure and industry expertise. Malaysia’s leadership in Halal standards and trade makes it an ideal partner for this initiative.

Under this Reverse Linkage Project, Serunai Commerce Sdn Bhd will serve as knowledge and expertise provider, supporting IANOR in developing Algeria’s national Halal ecosystem. The project aligns with Algeria’s vision to enhance global Muslim consumer confidence in its Halal products and services.

A Step Towards Global Halal Leadership

This collaboration represents a shared vision between Algeria and Malaysia to elevate the Halal industry. By adopting globally recognised standards and leveraging cutting-edge digital tools, Algeria is positioning itself as a key player in the Islamic economy.
