Penang International Halal Food and Heritage Festival (PIH2F) 2022 held at bustling Padang Kota, George Town, Penang brought a new edge to the state Halal industry with the perfect combination of both Halal shariah compliance and heritage to bring the best value to the tradition and culinary.

The festival held for two days over the weekend successfully attracted local communities and international tourists who flocked into Penang, the famous holiday destination known for the richness of its food and cultural heritage. Visitors of the festival are spoiled with various selections of Halal food and delicacies and information on Penang’s United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s World Heritage site status.

YB Datuk Halim Hussain, the Penang State Exco for Trade, Industry and Entrepreneurial Development and the Chairman of Penang Halal International (PHI) said that “PIH2F combines the values of Halal and heritage to showcase some of the most promising Halal food cuisines around the region, Halal F&B products, along with unique heritage products from a variety of cultures in the ASEAN region and beyond”.

Nasi Kandar, Penang Char Kway Teow and Laksa are the spotlights of the event as visitors not only get to experience the authentic taste of local favourites, but the public also brings home the unforgettable and life–learning experience on how to cook the famous dishes through the live cooking demonstrations from celebrities’ chef, Chef Wan and Aunty Aini’s among others.

PHI festival was livened up by cultural performances. Visitors were presented with interesting ancient cultural practices that are mostly forgotten by the younger generation.

Fazil Irwan Som, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PHI said that “There are a lot of synergies between the Halal standard and heritage which should be capitalised on, especially in a heritage-rich state like Penang, to enhance the value and growth of the industry.”

PIH 2022 also proudly presents Verify Halal™ as the Apps & Media Partner. The collaboration is hoped to continue engaging and provide the visitors of the event with Halal awareness, updates and information through the smart application.
